Alcohol is a Fat-Loving Toxin<\/h2>\n<p>One of the reasons people gain weight is because of toxins they are exposed to. That helps you to release and burn your fat stores.<\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s say you pour yourself a glass of wine after eating your healthy dinner because you heard that alcohol can help <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamainternalmedicine\/fullarticle\/415737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prevent obesity.<\/a><sup>1<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>What happens next? Your body is forced so to protect itself from the poisonous effects of alcohol&#8211; by creating fat.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the fat-burning process you set up with all your healthy meals completely stalls.<\/p>\n<p>The alcohol from the wine, along with your meal will both be stored as fat&#8211; especially in the absence of physical activity as you sleep.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Resveratol &amp; Alcohol<\/h2>\n<p>You&#8217;ve probably read about the studies that say red wine will help you lose weight because it contains a nutrient called resveratol. That&#8217;s not quite true.<\/p>\n<p>Min Du, the Washington State University researcher who did these studies says that much of the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wsu.edu\/2015\/06\/18\/wsu-scientists-turn-white-fat-into-obesity-fighting-beige-fat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resveratol has been filtered out<\/a><sup>2<\/sup> in the wine-making process. Fresh fruit like grapes and berries have much more resveratol than a glass of wine.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/ijo\/journal\/v39\/n6\/abs\/ijo201523a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the studies on resveratol<\/a><sup>3<\/sup> were done on mice.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pinit size-full wp-image-11866\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-508257086_BEST-JOB-EVER-RESIZED.jpg?resize=1054%2C421&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"All those resveratol studies were done on mice who were definitely under the drinking age.\" width=\"1054\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-508257086_BEST-JOB-EVER-RESIZED.jpg?w=1054&amp;ssl=1 1054w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-508257086_BEST-JOB-EVER-RESIZED.jpg?resize=300%2C120&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-508257086_BEST-JOB-EVER-RESIZED.jpg?resize=768%2C307&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-508257086_BEST-JOB-EVER-RESIZED.jpg?resize=1024%2C409&amp;ssl=1 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the study does make an interesting connection, it&#8217;s stretch to say that <strong>humans should drink red wine to lose weight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The truth is, alcohol is an <strong>&#8216;ANTI-nutrient&#8217;<\/strong>. It literally pulls important vitamins and minerals from your system, and you become malnourished as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Your ability to burn fat depends on having plenty of vitamins and minerals from real foods.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol also works as an anti-nutrient by interrupting protein synthesis, which is how your body builds and repairs valuable lean muscle and tissues like skin, bones, organs and hair.<\/p>\n<p>Once that important pathway is impaired by alcohol, energy from your food is not spent on building things in your body. Over time, your lean mass will decrease.<\/p>\n<p>The less lean mass you have, the slower your metabolism, and your body burns less fat.<\/p>\n<h2>3. It&#8217;s a Binge-Trigger (Unless You&#8217;re a Bee)<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s move on to another claim about red wine&#8211; that it will help to suppress your appetite.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State researchers noted this effect <a href=\"https:\/\/asunow.asu.edu\/content\/bees-decrease-food-intake-live-longer-when-given-compound-found-red-wine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in honeybees.<\/a><sup>4<\/sup> So the important lesson here is: <strong>drunk honeybees<\/strong> might not eat as much.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"pinit size-full wp-image-11865\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-171154021_drunk_bee_resized.jpg?resize=1040%2C363&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"A drunk bee is a happy bee?\" width=\"1040\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-171154021_drunk_bee_resized.jpg?w=1040&amp;ssl=1 1040w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-171154021_drunk_bee_resized.jpg?resize=300%2C105&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-171154021_drunk_bee_resized.jpg?resize=768%2C268&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.personaltrainerfood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/iStock-171154021_drunk_bee_resized.jpg?resize=1024%2C357&amp;ssl=1 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But for people, alcohol is a devilish trigger for binge-eating.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol makes that happen in two ways&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>First, alcohol drops your blood sugar. And second, it dehydrates your body. Separately, these two conditions are enough to make you feel hungry.<\/p>\n<p>When you combine low blood sugar and dehydration, <strong>the effect is magnified<\/strong>&#8212; you can&#8217;t help but crave something to eat.<\/p>\n<p>Especially salty things.<\/p>\n<p>Once you hit that magic point where you are kind of hungry, kinda buzzed&#8211; you&#8217;re all up in the beer nuts or that bag of chips.<\/p>\n<p>And your warm and fuzzy brain is saying &#8216;sorry not sorry&#8217; about your weight loss goals. But it doesn&#8217;t say that drinking will help you lose weight.
