Our ability to think and act is a reflection of our state of physical and mental health, which has its foundation, the food we cook and eat. You could easily say that cooking is what separates man from beast, as it developed as an art along with culture. Appropriate food can continually heal our bodies.

Hippocrates taught that food should be our medicine and medicine should be our food. In most traditional medicine systems food plays an integral part and common foods are often used for medicinal purposes. I have presented in these recipes tasty, nourishing foods that are also medicines.

MACROBIOTICS, meaning a large or great life, is a philosophy based on quality lifestyle, which includes a simple balanced regime of traditional foods such as wholegrains, beans and vegetables grown without chemical additives, as primary sources or food energy and nutrition.

"Macrobiotics amounts to finding our physiological limitations and trying to live within them. This is the cultivation of humbleness. When we think that we can do anything we want, we become arrogant. this arrogance causes sickness.

When we are living within our physical limitations, then our spirituality is free. Macrobiotics seeks freedom in spirit. Freedom exists in our spirit - so we can think anything. But biologically, physiologically we are unfree. We can wish to eat anything we want. But we cannot do it.

Disciplining physical unfreedom is the foundation of spiritual freedom. God didn't give us unlimited biological freedom, but appreciating and taking into consideration our unfree physical condition leads us to greater freedom, both physically and spiritually."

Nutritional requirements vary for each individual. Consideration must be given to your personal profile such as age, gender, blood type, current physical and mental health, activities, lifestyle and current food regime.
After over 20 years of experience I have been witness to many new ideas and diets.

Basically my philosophy is one where better health is achieved by consuming mainly organic wholegrains, proteins, vegetables from land and sea and whole fruits. Some people do better as vegetarian, while some need fish and even meat. I suggest in all these cases that organic foods wherever possible is essential
